Diane Sawyer to Interview Turpin Children For ABC News

Diane Sawyer and ABC News Studios have announced a new special event titled “The Turpins: A New House of Horror – A Diane Sawyer Special Event,” which is set to air on ABC on Feb. 3 at 10 p.m. ET. The one-hour interview will also be available for streaming the following day on Disney+ and Hulu.

The Turpin case gained widespread attention in 2018 when 13 children and adult dependents, aged between two and 29, were rescued from their parents’ home in Perris, California.

In 2021, Sawyer conducted an interview with two of the Turpin daughters, including Jordan Turpin, who was the one to initially report the case to the authorities. The upcoming special will feature three more Turpin siblings sharing their stories for the first time, shedding light on their experiences in the foster care system and facing abuse once again following their parents’ incarceration.

The harrowing events unfolded in January 2018 when 17-year-old Jordan Turpin managed to escape and call 911 after overhearing her parents planning to move the family to Oklahoma. The subsequent police raid uncovered appalling conditions in the residence, including human waste, decaying garbage, deceased pets, and moldy food. The children were found with bruises, malnourished, and some were even shackled to their beds.

The parents, David and Louise Turpin, were sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 25 years in December 2019. They faced multiple charges, including torture, false imprisonment, abuse of a dependent adult, and child abuse.

Sawyer’s initial interview, titled “Escape From A House Of Horror,” garnered over 7 million viewers during its premiere. “The Turpins: A New House of Horror – A Diane Sawyer Special Event” is being produced by ABC News Studios, with David Sloan serving as senior executive producer and Christina Ng as executive producer.

The special event’s key art has been unveiled, offering a glimpse into the upcoming program. Viewers can also get a first look at the special through the provided image.

This in-depth exploration of the Turpin case promises to provide further insight into the tragic events that unfolded and the impact it had on the Turpin siblings. Tune in to ABC on Feb. 3 to watch this compelling special and witness the survivors’ stories firsthand.
