Did Chauncey Billups get Bail in Gambling Case? Trail Blazers Coach Faces Massive Bond Demand Following Not Guilty Plea

Portland Trail Blazers head coach Chauncey Billups recently faced gambling charges and pleaded not guilty in court. The allegations against him involved participation in rigged poker games with Mafia figures, including a former NBA player. Billups was released on a $5 million bail bond, with his home in Colorado used as collateral, and his wife and daughter co-signing the bond. The next status update on his case is scheduled for March 4.

ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne reported that the judge overseeing Billups’ case aims to expedite the trial process, with plans to begin the trial in September 2026. Despite the complexity of the case involving 31 defendants, the judge is determined to move forward swiftly.

In the meantime, prosecutors will transfer their discovery to defense attorneys and their clients, causing a delay in the status update. The Blazers have placed Billups on unpaid leave following his arrest, appointing assistant coach Tiago Splitter as the interim head coach.

Since Splitter took over coaching duties, the Blazers have maintained a competitive edge, posting a 7-10 record and ranking ninth in the Western Conference. Despite a four-game losing streak in mid-November, the team has remained focused amidst the turmoil surrounding their head coach.

Key players like Deni Avdija and Shaedon Sharpe have stepped up their performance this season, with Avdija averaging 25.1 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 5.4 assists per game, while Sharpe is contributing 22.6 points, five rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game. The team has shown resilience and determination to succeed despite the challenges they face.

As the Blazers continue to navigate through this difficult period, the support and dedication of the players and coaching staff will be crucial in maintaining their competitive spirit. The NBA community will be watching closely as the team perseveres through adversity.
