Disney+ Japan Inks Major Content Deal With CJ ENM’s Tving
Disney+ Partners with CJ ENM to Bring Tving Content to Japan
Disney+ has announced a groundbreaking multi-year content partnership with CJ ENM to introduce South Korean streaming service Tving’s premium content to the Japanese audience for the first time. This partnership marks a significant move for Disney+ in the Japanese market, offering up to 60 of Tving’s top-performing originals and CJ ENM drama series to be available on the platform. The content rollout is set to begin on Nov. 5 and will feature popular titles like “Guardian: The Lonely and Great God” and “Reply 1988.”
One of the key highlights of this collaboration is the exclusive streaming of “Dear X,” starring Kim Yoo-jung, Kim Young-dae, and Kim Do-hoon, on Disney+ Japan starting Nov. 6, simultaneous with its Korean debut.
To showcase the expanded Korean content library, Disney+ Japan will introduce a dedicated feature called “Tving Highlights” on its homepage. This section will sit alongside the platform’s flagship franchises and original programming, offering subscribers easy access to Tving’s diverse range of emotionally driven and genre-defining series. Additionally, subscribers will have access to the “Tving Collection,” a curated hub showcasing TVING’s extensive content lineup.
Tamotsu Hiiro, managing director of The Walt Disney Company (Japan) Ltd., expressed excitement about the partnership, stating, “As we celebrate five years of Disney+ in Japan, we remain committed to expanding our content offerings to cater to the diverse preferences of audiences. This collaboration with CJ ENM and Tving is a significant step forward in that journey.”
Julie Choi, CEO of Tving, emphasized the strategic nature of the partnership in expanding the service’s global reach. She stated, “Our collaboration with Disney, a brand with a strong presence and rich history in Japan, provides an ideal platform to showcase Tving content to local viewers. Through this partnership, we aim to elevate Tving from Korea’s top OTT platform to a truly global K-OTT platform.”
Tony Zameczkowski, senior VP and GM of DTC for Asia Pacific at The Walt Disney Company, hailed the partnership as a pivotal moment in the company’s regional content and partnership strategy. He noted, “As Korean storytelling continues to captivate global audiences, we are proud to bring CJ ENM and Tving’s most compelling series to Disney+ viewers in Japan. This collaboration not only enhances our Korean content offerings but also marks the beginning of a broader opportunity to strengthen our connection with audiences in one of the world’s most dynamic streaming markets.”
This partnership builds on Disney+’s existing Korean content lineup, which includes popular originals like “Moving,” “The Worst of Evil,” and “Tempest,” as well as Japanese originals such as “Gannibal” and “Disney Twisted-Wonderland: The Animation.”
