Ditching Shedeur Sanders for Jaxson Dart, Abdul Carter to become starter and more

The New York Giants made a bold move in the 2025 NFL Draft by selecting Abdul Carter with the third overall pick. Many expected them to go for quarterback Shedeur Sanders, but the Giants opted for the impact defensive player instead. Carter is being compared to Micah Parsons and LaVar Arrington for his explosive pass-rushing abilities and athleticism. With his skill set, Carter is expected to make an immediate impact for the Giants in the upcoming season.

In a strategic move, the Giants traded back into the first round to select Jaxson Dart, a promising quarterback from Mississippi. Dart, who previously played at USC, has shown great potential during his time with the Rebels. While he may need some time to adjust to a pro-style offense, Dart’s accuracy and poise make him a valuable asset for the Giants’ future plans.

The Giants continued to bolster their defense in the later rounds of the draft by selecting Darius Alexander, an athletic defensive lineman who will complement Dexter Lawrence. They also added Cam Skattebo, a powerful ball carrier from Arizona State, who is expected to energize the Giants’ offense. Marcus Mbow, a tackle from Purdue, was seen as a steal in the fifth round and is projected to develop into a solid guard with time.

Tight end Thomas Fidone II, who was underutilized at Nebraska, was another valuable addition to the Giants’ roster. Fidone’s size and pass-catching abilities make him a potential No. 2 tight end in the future. Korie Black, a corner from Oklahoma State, was the team’s final pick and is expected to contribute on special teams.

In addition to their draft picks, the Giants signed a dozen undrafted free agents, including receivers Da’Quan Felton and Antwane “Juice” Wells Jr. Felton and Wells bring size and reliable hands to the receiving corps, while O’Donnell Fortune adds depth to the cornerback position.

Overall, the Giants received a grade of B+ for their draft performance. By focusing on the best available players and avoiding the pressure to select a quarterback early on, the Giants have set themselves up for success in the upcoming season. With a mix of defensive playmakers, promising offensive talents, and solid depth additions, the Giants look poised to make an impact in the league.
