Do Kwon to Serve 15 Years Behind Bars for the $40B LUNA Fraud
Do Kwon, the co-founder of Terraform Labs, has been sentenced to a 15-year prison term in a New York Federal Court. This comes after his involvement in the collapse of the $40 billion Terra LUNA ecosystem, which led to the 2022 crypto selloff.
The sentencing took place in a Manhattan court, where U.S. District Judge Paul A. Engelmayer handed down the verdict. Kwon, at 34 years old, pleaded guilty to two counts of conspiracy to defraud and wire fraud. As a result, he is expected to serve half of his sentence in South Korea.
The prosecution had initially requested a 12-year sentence for Kwon, while his defense team argued for a maximum of 5 years. Terraform Labs, on the other hand, agreed to pay an $80 million civil fine and reached a $4.55 billion settlement with the SEC.
