Doc Facing Gender-Affirming Care Lawsuit Moves Practice Out Texas

A pediatrician, Dr. May Lau, has made the decision to surrender her Texas medical license and relocate her practice to Oregon following a lawsuit filed against her by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, who is aligned with Donald Trump.

Last year, Paxton sued Dr. Lau, referring to her as a “radical doctor” in a statement announcing her license surrender. The lawsuit accused her of violating SB 14, a state law that prohibits minors from receiving hormone therapy and puberty blockers.

The lawsuit alleged that Dr. Lau provided hormone replacement therapy to 21 minors and falsified their medical records to facilitate their gender transition.

In response, Dr. Lau’s attorney, Craig Smyser, refuted the claims, calling them politically and ideologically motivated.

Additionally, SB 14 revokes the licenses of healthcare professionals who offer gender-affirming care to transgender youth. Dr. Lau recently requested the cancellation of her physician license in Texas.

Paxton’s office celebrated Dr. Lau’s surrender as a triumph, stating that it would prevent her from providing care to children in Texas in the future.

Dr. Lau explained in a statement that she has chosen to relocate her practice to Oregon and therefore no longer needs to maintain her Texas license.

This development occurs amidst increased verbal and legislative assaults on transgender individuals by MAGA-affiliated officials during Trump’s second term.
