Doug Martin reportedly experienced a severe mental health crisis months before his tragic death. According to a recent report, he jumped from a second-story window and engaged in a physical altercation with law enforcement officers.
The San Francisco Chronicle revealed this information in a recent article, citing reports from the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office. The report stated that Martin was placed on an involuntary psychiatric hold in August.
Upon checking into the Tranquility Rehab Center in Castro Valley, Martin tested positive for cocaine and methamphetamines. The Chronicle reported that he left the facility without permission multiple times during his stay.
Several days into his stay at the rehab center, Martin was discovered dancing outside the facility with blood on his hands. It was reported that a supervisor believed he had jumped from the second-floor window and struck the side of the building.
Law enforcement officers responded to the scene, where Martin indicated he was armed. When they attempted to search him, they found three bags of cocaine and a 12-inch chef’s knife. Martin resisted arrest and was placed on a 72-hour psychiatric hold.
The incident led to potential charges being sent to the prosecutor’s office for review. However, the outcome of this review is unknown following Martin’s unfortunate passing.
Tragically, Doug Martin passed away while in police custody after an incident involving a break-in at an Oakland residence. His family had contacted authorities earlier that evening seeking medical assistance.
According to reports, Martin had become disoriented and entered a neighbor’s home, resulting in a confrontation with responding officers. He became unresponsive during the altercation and was pronounced dead after being transported to the hospital.
Doug Martin was 36 years old at the time of his passing.
Rest in peace.
