Douglas County approves Zebulon sports complex land swap
Exciting News for Douglas County: Zebulon Regional Sports Complex Approval
The Douglas County Board of County Commissioners unanimously gave the green light for a significant land exchange on Tuesday, bringing the Zebulon mega sports complex one step closer to becoming a reality in northwest Douglas County.
This approval allows the county to acquire 46.5 acres of land from Sterling Ranch developers. In return, Sterling Ranch will receive 23.8 acres of county-owned land for commercial development. The first phase of the project will see the transformation of vacant land near Moore and Waterton roads into a state-of-the-art regional sports facility, complete with hockey rinks, gyms, soccer fields, and baseball fields.
It’s worth noting that the site was formerly home to a DuPont dynamite factory. After receiving approval for prior remediation in 2022 from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE), it was confirmed that the site poses no environmental risks.
Currently, the county is in talks with over 50 private entities who have expressed interest in being part of this exciting project.
