Drag racers arrested, luxury cars impounded after tearing through Grand Teton National Park: officials
Luxury car drivers arrested for turning Grand Teton National Park into racetrack
A group of luxury car drivers found themselves in hot water this week after turning the scenic roads of Wyoming’s Grand Teton National Park into their own personal racetrack. The four speedsters were part of a luxury car rally touring the country, according to a National Park Service spokesperson.
It took the efforts of 12 rangers to strategically stop the reckless drivers and bring them in. Grand Teton Superintendent Chip Jenkins expressed his disapproval, stating that such behavior is unsafe, irresponsible, and unacceptable in a national park.
The drivers were participating in OutRun, an exclusive event organized by Nu Rally for owners of “supercars and hypercars.” The rally takes participants on a scenic journey from Washington state to Las Vegas, promising them the opportunity to “feel the energy of the Teton Range.” Participants pay between $900 and $13,995 for the experience.
The National Park Service did not disclose the identities of the drivers, only noting that they were driving high-end luxury sports cars at excessive speeds through the iconic mountain range near Yellowstone National Park. Fortunately, no park staff, visitors, or wildlife were harmed during the incident.
Nu Rally explicitly states in its terms and conditions that participants must obey traffic laws and refrain from engaging in any form of competition with other drivers. However, participants have been known to bend the rules, as evidenced by a TikTok video posted by Nu Rally showing one car being pulled over on the first day of this week’s event.
Despite the presence of hundreds of other drivers in the Tetons, the park remains a popular destination drawing over 3 million visitors annually, particularly in June. It is also home to threatened wildlife such as grizzly bears and Canada lynx.
Nu Rally has yet to respond to requests for comment on the incident. The National Park Service is committed to preserving the natural beauty and wildlife of the park, ensuring that all visitors adhere to the rules and regulations in place for the protection of this pristine environment.
