Dreaming Whilst Black Season 2 Sets 2025 Return, Reveals First Look
The upcoming second season of the hit British satirical comedy “Dreaming Whilst Black” promises to delve deeper into the challenges faced by aspiring filmmaker Kwabena, played by Adjani Salmon. The show, created by Salmon and produced by A24 and Big Deal Films, is set to return to the BBC later this year, with Showtime handling the U.S. release.
In the first season, Kwabena struggled to navigate racism and exploitation in the British entertainment industry while trying to secure funding for his debut feature film. Now, in the second season, Kwabena finds himself at the beginning of his professional career in a supposedly more inclusive and diverse era. The synopsis hints at a satirical take on the industry’s response to movements like #BAFTASoWhite and Black Lives Matter, where diversity and inclusion are supposedly at the forefront of everyone’s agenda.
Despite the industry’s outward appearance of progressiveness, Kwabena remains skeptical. Desperate to work on a project that aligns with his values, he lands a directing job on the major TV series “Sin and Subterfuge,” a genre-bending period drama produced by the iconic Bridgette Julienne. But as Kwabena navigates this new opportunity, he wonders if it’s truly a golden ticket or a poisoned chalice.
The returning cast members alongside Salmon include Dani Moseley as Amy, Demmy Ladipo as Maurice, Rachel Adedeji as Funmi, and Babirye Bukilwa as Vanessa. The first season of “Dreaming Whilst Black” received critical acclaim, earning BAFTA TV nominations for scripted comedy and male performance in a comedy program, as well as NAACP and Film Independent Spirit Awards nominations.
Co-produced by A24 and U.K.-based indie Big Deal Films, “Dreaming Whilst Black” is executive produced by Salmon, Ali Hughes, Dhanny Joshi, and Thomas Stogdon. The series is directed by Sebastian Thiel and Abdou Cisse, with Nicola Gregory serving as producer.
Fans can look forward to the return of “Dreaming Whilst Black” for a second season that promises to tackle timely and important issues in the entertainment industry. Stay tuned for more updates on the show’s release date and where to watch it.
