Driver in custody after car crashes into Chabad World Headquarters in Brooklyn

A shocking incident took place on Wednesday evening when a car crashed into the Chabad-Lubavitch World Headquarters in Brooklyn. The New York Police Department is currently investigating this as a potential hate crime. The entire incident was captured on video, adding to the gravity of the situation.

According to New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch, officers were already present at 770 Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn’s Crown Heights neighborhood when they heard a disturbance at the building’s main entrance around 8:45 p.m. Upon responding to the scene, they witnessed a car striking the rear door, reversing, and then hitting the door once again.

Fortunately, there were no reported injuries, and the driver was promptly taken into custody. As a precautionary measure, the NYPD Bomb Squad conducted a thorough search of the vehicle but found no explosives or dangerous devices.

The NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force has taken charge of the investigation, emphasizing the seriousness of the incident. New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani condemned the act, labeling it as a “horrifying incident” and highlighting that “antisemitism has no place in our society.”

This incident occurred during a Chabad holiday, with thousands of individuals from across the globe gathered at the headquarters. New York Attorney General Letitia James expressed concern over the situation, further emphasizing the need to address such acts of hate.

The Anti-Defamation League of New York and New Jersey also released a statement on social media, expressing deep concern over the incident. They highlighted the significance of 770 Eastern Parkway not only as a synagogue but also as a global symbol of Judaism.
