Driver pulled over to drink beer before getting busted going 122 mph: police
From “Miller Time” to jail time.
A shocking incident unfolded on a Connecticut highway as a driver was caught speeding at a staggering 122 mph by state police. The driver, identified as Carlos Gallegos-Loja, a 23-year-old from Brockton, Massachusetts, confessed to pulling over on the highway to chug a beer, adding a dangerous twist to the already reckless situation.
The bizarre series of events began when Gallegos-Loja pulled over his Chevrolet Traverse on I-84 West in West Hartford around 1 a.m. The state police initially spotted the vehicle with all its occupants outside before driving off. However, when a different state trooper later spotted the SUV speeding at 122 mph in a 65-mph zone and failing to stay in one lane, the situation escalated.
Upon pulling over Gallegos-Loja, the troopers observed clear signs of impairment, including slow actions and speech. Open alcohol containers were also found in the SUV, confirming the driver’s admission that he had pulled over initially to chug a beer before continuing his journey.
The driver’s reckless actions led to his arrest on multiple charges, including reckless driving, driving under the influence, illegal operation of a motor vehicle without minimum insurance, failure to drive in the proper lane on a limited access highway, improper parking, operating a motor vehicle without a license, and drinking while driving.
Gallegos-Loja was released on a $1,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Hartford Superior Court on July 15 to face the consequences of his dangerous and irresponsible behavior. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of impaired driving and the potential consequences that can arise from such reckless actions.
