‘Dukes of Hazzard’ Actor Dead at 79

Richard Hurst — best known as Deputy Cletus Hogg on “The Dukes of Hazzard” — has passed away. His first wife, Candace Kaniecki, confirmed that Rick died unexpectedly in Los Angeles. The cause of his death is currently unknown.
Recently, Rick was scheduled to make an appearance at Cooter’s Place in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee on July 3rd. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, he was unable to attend, and the event had to be rescheduled.
Fans of classic TV series will fondly remember Rick’s portrayal of Boss Hogg’s cousin on “The Dukes of Hazzard.” He initially took on this role in the late ’70s and continued to reprise it throughout the ’80s.
Throughout his career, Rick accumulated an extensive list of TV and film credits. He made appearances in popular shows like “Sanford and Son,” “The Partridge Family,” “MASH,” “Gunsmoke,” and “The Bob Newhart Show.” Additionally, he appeared in movies such as “The Cat from Outer Space” and “History of the World: Part I.”
His son, actor Ryan Hurst, is recognized for his roles in “Sons of Anarchy” and “Remember the Titans.”
Rick Hurst was 79 years old at the time of his passing.
