Earthquake injures at least 7 in northwest China’s Gansu province
BEIJING — Reports from state media indicate that a 5.6-magnitude earthquake struck northwest China’s Gansu province on Saturday, causing damage to buildings and injuring seven individuals. Fortunately, none of the injuries were severe.
The earthquake occurred at 5:49 a.m. in Longxi county, with a shallow depth of 10 kilometers (6 miles), according to the Chinese government earthquake center. The epicenter was located approximately 140 kilometers (87 miles) southeast of Lanzhou, the provincial capital.
State broadcaster CCTV revealed that eight houses were destroyed and over 100 sustained damage due to the earthquake. Videos shared by state media depicted emergency workers diligently clearing debris with shovels.
