Egg Recall As Salmonella Outbreak Leaves 79 Sick, 21 Hospitalized

The August Egg Company of Hilmar, CA, recently issued a voluntary recall of approximately 1.7 million eggs due to a Salmonella outbreak. This outbreak has already affected 79 individuals, with 21 requiring hospitalization across seven states, according to a report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The recall includes multiple brands of brown organic and brown cage-free eggs produced by the August Egg Company. Consumers are advised to check their egg cartons for specific Universal Product Codes (UPCs) and plant codes. The affected eggs were sold at various retail locations from February 3, 2025, through May 15, 2025, with sell by dates ranging from March 4, 2025, to June 19, 2025.

Salmonella is a bacteria that can cause salmonellosis when ingested. Symptoms of salmonellosis include diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps, which can last for several days. While most individuals recover without medical intervention, those with weakened immune systems may experience more severe complications.

This recall is part of a larger trend, as there is currently another Salmonella outbreak linked to cucumbers. This outbreak has affected 45 individuals across 18 states. It is essential for consumers to be vigilant and check their produce for potential contamination.
