Election Day 2025: Some last Post endorsements
The upcoming Westchester County executive race is heating up once again, with Christine Schulti leading the charge for lower taxes, reduced crime, and a repeal of the controversial sanctuary law. In a bid to win over voters, Schulti has promised to cut spending and establish an office dedicated to parental rights if elected.
In a similar vein, the importance of a strong Republican presence in the New York City Council cannot be understated. Not only does it serve as a barrier against the progressive agenda pushed by the Democratic majority, but it also lays the foundation for a more competitive political landscape. Case in point, Kristy Mormarato’s victory in The Bronx’s District 13 marked the first GOP councilmember in the borough since 1939. Her advocacy for safer streets, quality education, and improved city services has resonated with constituents, while her opposition to controversial projects like the Bally’s Casino siting plan has earned her praise.
Further south in Brooklyn’s District 47, George Sarantopoulos has emerged as a strong contender with a robust public safety platform that has garnered support from various police unions. As Bay Ridge navigates uncertain political waters, Sarantopoulos stands out as a steadfast advocate for community well-being.
On Staten Island, a trio of Republican candidates – John Shea for District 49, David Carr for District 50, and Frank Morano for District 51 – have captured the editorial board’s endorsement. Their shared commitment to curbing overdevelopment and preventing the proliferation of lithium-ion battery storage sites in residential areas aligns with the concerns of many residents.
As the countdown to Election Day continues, it’s essential for Westchester voters to cast their ballots before the early voting period ends on Sunday. On Tuesday, polls will be open from 6 am to 9 pm, providing an opportunity for residents to make their voices heard and shape the future of their communities. With key issues at stake, the outcome of this election could have a lasting impact on the region’s trajectory.
