Tech billionaire Elon Musk expressed regret on Wednesday for his recent social media posts regarding U.S. President Donald Trump. The public dispute between the two former allies had caused a rift in their relationship.
“I regret some of my posts about President @realDonaldTrump last week. They went too far,” Musk stated on the X social media platform.
The conflict between Musk and Trump led to the dissolution of their partnership, which had previously allowed Musk to lead the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) under Trump’s administration. This development raised concerns in the market about the future of Musk’s Tesla and SpaceX businesses. Despite initial setbacks, Tesla’s shares have started to recover.
The disagreement stemmed from Musk’s opposition to the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” supported by Trump. Musk claimed that the bill would undermine the work of DOGE and increase the U.S. budget deficit. The Trump administration refuted these allegations.
Following the dispute, Trump warned of consequences for Musk if he supported Democratic candidates opposing the bill. However, Trump later indicated that he would be open to speaking with Musk.
After the storm
The conflict played out on social media platforms owned by Musk and Trump, posing threats to Musk’s ventures. Trump suggested terminating government contracts with Musk’s companies, while Musk considered decommissioning SpaceX’s Dragon spacecraft.
By the weekend, tensions had eased as Musk deleted some of his contentious posts, including those mentioning Trump’s alleged connection to Jeffrey Epstein. Trump, in turn, expressed interest in retaining Musk’s Starlink technology at the White House.
