Employer of Illinois surgeon accused of killing ex-wife, Ohio dentist husband speaks out over his arrest
The medical group that employed the Illinois surgeon accused of gunning down his ex-wife and her prominent Ohio dentist husband is cooperating with police as the heinous double slaying is investigated.
Michael David McKee, a 39-year-old vascular surgeon, was employed by OSF Saint Anthony in Rockford, Illinois, when he allegedly traveled over 300 miles to Ohio, where he’s accused of killing Spencer and Monique Tepe in their home on Dec. 30, according to police and public records.
“OSF is cooperating with authorities who will provide further information,” a spokesperson for the faith-based Catholic practice said in a statement to The Post Tuesday night.
The medical group did not confirm whether the suspected gunman was still employed. However, no doctor profile for him appears on its website.
McKee, a graduate of Ohio State University medical school, was arrested in Rockford on murder charges for fatally shooting Spencer and Monique, who he was married to from 2015 to 2017.
His brief marriage to Monique ended in 2017 when she filed for divorce, but court records indicated the split was amicable.
Monique then married Spencer, her second husband, on Dec. 13, 2020, and they had two children together, according to the couple’s obituary.
The two children – a 4-year-old daughter and a 1-year-old son – were found unharmed inside the family’s upscale Columbus home when the Tepes’ bodies were discovered.
The violent attack occurred between 2 and 5 a.m. in the upstairs of the home. No gun was found at the scene, and there was no sign of forced entry.
Surveillance footage released by authorities showed a “person of interest” walking down an alley near the couple’s home around the time of the killings.
Authorities identified the alleged killer after tracking a vehicle that was in the vicinity at the time and later traveled 325 miles to Rockford, where McKee was found.
McKee, who holds medical licenses in both Illinois and California, allegedly owns the car used in the incident.
Police have not yet determined a motive for the gruesome murders. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working to piece together the events leading up to the tragic deaths of Spencer and Monique Tepe.
