Enraged pal of arrested RI prosecutor was trying to ‘slow things down’ when ‘s–t hit the fan’ during trespassing bust: lawyer
The recent incident involving a belligerent blonde slipping out of handcuffs while her Rhode Island prosecutor friend seethed at police has sparked controversy and raised eyebrows. The chaotic arrest, caught on camera, showed Veronica Hannan and Special Assistant Attorney General Devon Hogan Flanagan being cuffed for alleged trespassing at a restaurant in Newport.
Veronica Hannan’s lawyer, John Grasso, claimed that his client was trying to “slow things down” when the situation escalated. According to Grasso, the chaos unfolded after Hannan paid her bill at the Clarke Cooke House restaurant and walked out, only to be caught off guard by the unfolding events. He attributed her behavior to her lack of prior experience with police encounters.
The bodycam footage showed Hannan telling cops to “relax” while Flanagan demanded the officer to shut off his body cam due to protocol. Flanagan, who tried to intimidate the officers with her job title, was heard screaming, “You’re going to regret it,” as she was being handcuffed. Hannan also displayed aggressive behavior, shouting expletives and kicking the police car door open after being cuffed.
Despite the damning footage, Grasso maintained that Hannan was attempting to maintain calm during the encounter with the Newport Police Department. Both women were arraigned following the incident, with reports suggesting that they had consumed alcohol before their arrest. The state Attorney General’s Office initiated a review of the incident in response to the public outcry.
In the aftermath of the arrest, Hannan is said to be overwhelmed by the situation as it is not a typical experience for her. The Clarke Cooke House restaurant declined to comment on the incident when contacted. The unfolding events have left many questioning the behavior of the two women and the handling of the situation by law enforcement.
As the investigation continues, the public waits to see the consequences of the actions of Veronica Hannan and Devon Hogan Flanagan. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining composure in stressful situations and cooperating with law enforcement authorities.
