Epstein files show Elon Musk planned visit to island, host at SpaceX
A recent cache of newly released documents from the Epstein files revealed that Elon Musk had corresponded with the convicted sex offender in 2012 and 2013. The emails showed discussions between the two about potentially meeting at Jeffrey Epstein’s private island and at Musk’s SpaceX facility in Southern California.
One email indicated that Musk inquired about attending a party hosted by Epstein on his island, referring to it as the “wildest party.” Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, has long attempted to downplay his connection to Epstein, who tragically died by suicide in 2019 while in federal custody.
In a post on his social network X in September, Musk stated, “Epstein tried to get me to go to his island and I REFUSED.” He expressed frustration that he was mentioned alongside Epstein by Sky News before Prince Andrew, who had visited the island, was named.
In 2023, the U.S. Virgin Islands issued a subpoena to Musk due to suspicions that Epstein may have attempted to refer Musk as a client to JPMorgan Chase.
On Friday, the Department of Justice released millions of additional pages of documents related to Epstein, along with numerous videos and images. This release followed criticism of the DOJ for not complying with a federal law requiring all Epstein-related files to be made public by December 19.
Among the documents were emails from 2012 to 2013 that mentioned Musk, although his email address was redacted from the records.
In one email from October 2012, Musk told Epstein that he would be traveling with his partner at the time, Talulah Riley, to St. Barts and expressed interest in potentially connecting at Epstein’s Island. In a follow-up email in November 2013, Epstein offered to send a private helicopter for Musk and Riley to visit the island.
Despite these exchanges, Musk has denied ever visiting the island. CNBC has not confirmed whether Musk actually visited the island.
Additionally, the released emails revealed that in October 2012, Musk forwarded questions from Epstein to his cousin, Peter Rive, a SolarCity founder. Epstein had inquired about electrifying his New Mexico ranch or private island using SolarCity’s services.
Tesla later acquired SolarCity in 2016, incorporating it into the company’s energy division.
In a post on X last year, Musk suggested that President Donald Trump and his administration were withholding Epstein-related files to protect the president’s reputation. However, he later apologized for his comments about Trump.
