Ex-Jets first rounder could face death penalty grisly new details revealed about girlfriend’s murder
Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty for former New York Jets first-round pick Darron Lee, as new details emerge about the horrifying murder of his girlfriend, Gabriella Carvalho Perpétuo. Lee, a former NFL linebacker, appeared in court where he was denied bond on charges of first-degree murder and tampering with evidence.
According to prosecutors, the crime scene was a gruesome sight, with blood found in every room of the house, including a car in the garage. Perpétuo was discovered topless and had suffered severe brain trauma, a broken neck, bruising all over her body, and large bite marks on her shoulder and thigh. She also had stab wounds on her legs and significant facial injuries, with the cause of death determined to be blunt force trauma.
Lee initially told police that Perpétuo, who he claimed suffered from narcolepsy, had fallen in the shower. However, the evidence at the scene painted a different picture. The house was in disarray, with blood splattered throughout and broken glass and cleaning supplies found upstairs. Detectives also noted that Lee was on probation for a previous aggravated assault conviction in Florida and had moved to Tennessee without permission from his probation officer.
Despite Lee’s defense team’s efforts to secure bond, District Attorney Coty Wamp successfully argued that he posed a significant risk and should remain in custody. She pointed out that Lee had failed to complete court-ordered anger management classes, which would have ended his probation just three days after Perpétuo’s death.
As a result, Hamilton County Criminal Court Judge Tori Smith denied bond for Lee and scheduled his next court appearance for March 9. The former NFL player now faces the possibility of the death penalty for the brutal murder of his girlfriend.
