Ex-Obama Photographer Dogs Trump With Beloved Image Of Now-Demolished East Wing
Former Obama White House chief photographer Pete Souza expressed his disappointment on Monday at President Donald Trump’s decision to demolish the East Wing to make way for his extravagant $250 million ballroom project.
While Souza acknowledged the argument for constructing the ballroom, he criticized Trump’s approach to the project. The president initially claimed that no part of the White House would be impacted by the construction, which Souza found misleading. He also questioned the necessity for a ballroom that seats 999 people and is adorned with gold.
“This is not his house. This house belongs to us. It’s the People’s House. One man should not have the authority to demolish a building for his personal vanity project,” Souza remarked. “I was devastated to see the disregard with which he handled this decision.”
Souza, known for using his Obama-era photos to subtly jab at Trump, has resumed this practice since the president’s return to office in January.
He has been sharing his old White House photos while criticizing the ballroom project in recent days. In one Instagram post, Souza called the demolition of the East Wing “a disgrace,” emphasizing how the White House used to be the People’s House but now seems to belong to a “wannabe king.”
“It’s a reflection of what his administration is doing to the nation,” Souza added in another post, highlighting the symbolism of tearing down a part of the historic building.
