Ex-TV anchor Angelynn Mock charged with murder for allegedly stabbing her elderly mother to death on Halloween
A tragic incident shook the community of Wichita, Kansas, as former television anchor Angelynn Mock was charged with first-degree murder for allegedly stabbing her 80-year-old mother, Anita Avers, to death on Halloween. Mock, a former news anchor for a local Fox affiliate station, is accused of repeatedly stabbing her mother in their home in the early hours of October 31st.
The Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office announced that Mock, 47, is facing first-degree murder charges, which could result in a life sentence. Mock was arrested at the home she shared with her mother after calling the police on herself. When officers arrived, they found Mock outside the house with bloody cuts on her hands. She confessed to stabbing her mother to save herself, according to dispatchers.
Upon entering the home, officers discovered Avers unresponsive in her bed with multiple stab wounds. She was rushed to the hospital but tragically succumbed to her injuries just 30 minutes later. Mock, who also sustained injuries, was treated at the hospital before being booked into the Sedgwick County Jail on a $1 million bond.
Neighbors were shocked when they saw Mock covered in blood on Halloween morning. Alyssa Castro, a resident of the neighborhood, recounted how Mock approached her and her boyfriend, asking for help and to call 911. Despite the horrifying situation, Castro and her boyfriend assisted Mock in contacting the authorities.
Anita Avers was a respected family and marriage therapist at Wichita Counseling Professionals, with 18 years of experience helping adults with mental health disorders. The community mourned the loss of such a dedicated professional.
Mock’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for November 14th as the investigation into the tragic incident continues. The community remains stunned by the events that unfolded on Halloween, reminding everyone of the unexpected and devastating nature of such acts of violence.
