Exclusive | Kris Boyd left trendy NYC hotspot with 2 other Jets over bad ‘vibe’ just before cornerback was shot: sources
New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd was shot outside a trendy restaurant in Manhattan in the early hours of Sunday morning. The 29-year-old player is currently in critical but stable condition at Bellevue Hospital after sustaining two gunshots to the abdomen.
According to sources, Boyd had been at Sei Less, an Asian-fusion restaurant popular among celebrities, with two other Jets players. However, he left the establishment shortly before the shooting occurred because he felt that the atmosphere inside was tense and the vibe was off.
It is unclear which teammates were with Boyd at the time of the incident, as the Jets have not provided any further information. The team released a statement saying they were aware of the situation involving Boyd but had no further comment at this time.
Outside the restaurant, chaos erupted as shots were fired into the crowd. Surveillance footage captured a car with Michigan plates speeding out of a parking garage, crashing into a barrier, and someone inside opening fire. Another car followed suit, also speeding away from the scene.
Reports indicate that the shooter fled in a BMW X6 SUV, followed by a high-end silver Mercedes-Benz Maybach, both with out-of-state plates. Despite the incident, Sei Less has reportedly not been cooperating with the police and has refused to provide any security footage.
Boyd, who had already been on the Jets’ injured reserve due to a shoulder injury, is described as being in good condition by a close friend. Ernest Quander, a friend from Boyd’s college days at the University of Texas, reassured that Boyd is a resilient individual who is handling the situation well.
The cornerback joined the Jets this year after brief stints with the Arizona Cardinals and Houston Texans. He initially started his NFL career with the Minnesota Vikings in 2019 and had been with the team for four years before moving on to other franchises.
The investigation into the shooting outside Sei Less is ongoing, with authorities working to identify the perpetrators and establish a motive for the attack. Boyd’s recovery and well-being remain a top priority for his friends, family, and the New York Jets organization.
