Exclusive | Mom of beloved IT worker killed in NYC hit-and-run pleads for driver to come forward
The tragic death of 27-year-old IT worker Shariq Bryant in a hit-and-run incident in the Bronx has left his family and friends devastated. Bryant, described as an angel who took care of his autistic brother and lifted everyone around him, was visiting friends in the Bronx when the driver of a 2025 BMW M8 struck him as he crossed the intersection on East 222nd near Boston Road.
The reckless driver crashed into a pole before fleeing the scene on foot, leaving Bryant with severe body trauma. Despite being rushed to Jacobi Medical Center, Bryant tragically succumbed to his injuries. His mother, Keryann Stephens, has pleaded for the killer to come forward, expressing forgiveness and urging them to take responsibility for their actions.
Stephens, a God-fearing woman, has chosen to forgive the perpetrator, acknowledging the pain they have caused the family. She believes that the Holy Spirit will guide the individual to do the right thing and turn themselves in. Despite the immense loss, Stephens is determined to celebrate the upcoming holidays with Bryant’s two younger brothers, one of whom is autistic, as her son would have wanted.
Described as always bringing a smile to his mother’s face and lifting her spirits, Bryant was a beloved figure among his family and friends. Family friend Taniyah Montgomery recalled Bryant as an adopted older brother who would often generously pick up the tab at restaurants in New York City. His infectious laugh and ability to make others laugh even in difficult times have left a lasting impact on those who knew him.
As the community mourns the loss of Shariq Bryant, they remember him for his kindness, generosity, and ability to bring joy to those around him. The search for the hit-and-run driver continues, with Bryant’s family hoping for closure and justice for their beloved son and brother.
