Exclusive | Rep. Andy Barr on top with $6.4M war chest for Senate race to replace Mitch McConnell

Rep. Andy Barr (R-Ky.) has emerged as a formidable force in the 2026 Kentucky Senate race, amassing an impressive $6.42 million war chest in campaign donations. The seven-term GOP congressman’s fundraising prowess has put him ahead of his primary opponents, former Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron and garbage removal entrepreneur Nate Morris, in the race to replace retiring Republican Sen. Mitch McConnell.

Barr’s campaign haul of almost $1.4 million in the last quarter has given him a significant advantage over his competitors. Morris reported a campaign war chest of $1,070,461, while Cameron recorded just $629,748 in donations. Barr’s donations are approximately six and 10 times the amount of his opponents, respectively.

In the Senate Republican contest, Barr leads the fundraising field with more than $6.6 million cash on hand. However, Morris Industries CEO Nate Morris topped the contributions in the last quarter with over $4 million in donations, including a $3 million personal loan to his campaign.

Mitch McConnell, the longest-serving leader of any party in the Senate, announced his retirement in February, paving the way for a new Republican senator from Kentucky. McConnell’s decision to step down was influenced by health issues, including painful falls and freeze-ups in recent years.

The race to replace McConnell has highlighted divisions within the Republican Party, particularly between McConnell and former President Donald Trump. Trump’s return to the political arena has reignited tensions between the two, with Trump supporters like Nate Morris criticizing McConnell for his perceived criticisms of the former president.

Barr has positioned himself as a strong candidate in the Senate race, garnering endorsements from key Trump allies like Rep. Ronny Jackson, Rep. Steve Scalise, and Rep. Elise Stefanik. His campaign emphasizes his ability to defeat Senate Democratic frontrunner Charles Booker, with recent polls showing Barr leading Booker by 11 percentage points.

Cameron and Morris also have their strengths in the race, with Cameron holding a seven-point advantage over Booker and Morris holding a one-point advantage. The competition for McConnell’s Senate seat is heating up, with each candidate vying for the opportunity to represent Kentucky in the upper chamber.

As the race continues to unfold, all eyes are on Trump, who has yet to make an endorsement in the Kentucky Senate race. With the election drawing near, the candidates are ramping up their campaigns, hoping to secure victory and continue the Republican legacy in Kentucky.
