Extreme heat hitting Northeast, West: Latest on the scorching temperatures
Extreme heat is currently impacting various parts of the United States, with both coasts experiencing dangerously high temperatures. The Northeast, Northwest, and Southwest are all feeling the effects of this heatwave.
In the Northeast, heat advisories have been issued for parts of Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, and upstate New York. Augusta, Maine, recorded a daily high temperature of 98 degrees on Monday, and daily record highs in the mid-90s are expected on Tuesday in cities like Caribou, Maine, Burlington, Vermont, Manchester, New Hampshire, and Syracuse, New York. While the region will see a brief cool down by Thursday and Friday, above-average heat is forecasted to return over the weekend.
Meanwhile, the West is also experiencing extreme heat. In the Northwest, Roseburg, Oregon, saw a daily high temperature of 105 degrees on Monday. Medford, Oregon, and Portland are expected to reach record highs on Tuesday, with temperatures ranging from 97 to 105 degrees. In the Southwest, Las Vegas could reach 110 degrees, and Reno, Nevada, may see a record high temperature on Tuesday. Death Valley, California, is expected to approach 121 degrees, while Phoenix could experience temperatures as high as 112 degrees on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The excessive heat in the West is anticipated to move eastward, bringing mid-90s temperatures to Omaha, Nebraska, on Friday before reaching the Northeast over the weekend.
