Fairfield’s magic runs out in US title game

Connecticut’s Fairfield National’s Little League World Series journey came to an end as they were defeated by Summerlin South Little League from Las Vegas in the U.S. title game. The game ended with a score of 8-2 in favor of Vegas, securing their spot in the championship game.

Vegas took an early lead in the first inning, scoring three runs on a wild pitch and a two-run single from Grayson Miranda. Fairfield managed to score a run in the bottom of the inning, but Vegas pitcher Garrett Gallegos shut down the potential rally, leaving runners stranded on base.

In the fourth inning, Gallegos extended Vegas’ lead with a powerful home run. Fairfield responded with another run in the bottom of the inning, but a defensive play by Vegas shortstop Ethan Robertson cut short their momentum.

The game took a tense turn in the fifth inning as Gallegos found himself in a tight spot with two runners on base. A smart play by Gallegos in a rundown situation resulted in an out at third base, and he followed it up with a crucial strikeout to maintain Vegas’ lead.

Vegas secured their victory with additional runs in the sixth inning, including a double from Cache Malan and a bases-loaded hit by pitch from Banks Mossle. Cutter Ricafort sealed the win with a two-run single, extending the lead to 8-2.

Fairfield’s pitcher Luca Pellegrini put up a valiant effort, pitching 5 ¹/₃ innings and allowing five runs. However, Gallegos outshined him with a strong performance, giving up just two runs and striking out eight batters in five innings.

In the end, Vegas clinched the U.S. title and advanced to the championship game, ending Fairfield’s impressive run in the Little League World Series. Vegas’ key players Malan and Gallegos played a crucial role in the victory, combining for four hits, four runs, and two RBIs.

Looking ahead, Vegas will face Chinese Taipei in the championship game, aiming to become the first team from Nevada to win the Little League World Series. Chinese Taipei secured their spot by defeating Aruba in the international title game.

The stage is set for an intense showdown between Vegas and Chinese Taipei, with both teams showcasing strong hitters and pitchers. The championship game promises to be a thrilling battle for Little League supremacy.
