Darius McCrary has been released from jail after a court hearing that marked the end of a tumultuous period that began with his arrest at the border in Mexico. The “Family Matters” star’s public defender, Paulette Loftin, expressed that the resolution reached signifies the importance of family and truth.
According to Loftin, “Over the last four years, Mr. McCrary’s fight for justice and truth has been painted as an attempt to shirk his responsibilities to his child. The resolution reached today makes it clear that family does matter and that it always has.”
Regarding the outcome, Loftin added, “This resolution allows Mr. McCrary to correct the misleading narrative and put this matter behind him.”
McCrary was initially arrested near Tijuana in October and held on a no bail order in San Diego. He was later extradited to Michigan, where he faced five felony charges, including allegations of failing to pay child support and absconding.
As part of the recent agreement, McCrary entered a no-contest plea to all five felony charges. He is scheduled to appear in court for sentencing in February 2026, according to his representative, Ann Barlow.
Barlow also mentioned that McCrary is relieved to be reunited with his family for the holidays and remains committed to clearing his name.
