Family of Arizona mom mauled to death by dogs recounts final moments

A tragic incident unfolded in Big River, California, when Emily Panuco, a 26-year-old mother, was viciously mauled to death by a pack of dogs while trying to protect her 6-year-old son, Jesse. The heartbreaking attack took place at her mother’s home on the California-Arizona border, where Emily had gone to visit a litter of puppies as a treat for her son.

The dogs responsible for the attack included a dog previously abandoned by a neighbor, a Heeler mix named “Dipstick,” and another mutt. Emily’s family revealed that her mother had taken in the wayward dog in an attempt to do a good deed, as she loved animals and would often leave food out for them.

On the day of the attack, Jesse went to pet the week-old puppies kept in a cardboard box near the front door of the house when the three dogs attacked him. In a desperate attempt to protect her son, Emily intervened and was fatally bitten multiple times. Tragically, she succumbed to her injuries at the scene, while Jesse survived with severe bites.

Emily’s husband, Richie Panuco, hailed her as a hero for sacrificing her life to save their son. He described her as a great person and a role model for their family and the community. Emily also left behind a seven-month-old daughter, Rosmé, and acted as the guardian of her 16-year-old sister, Saralynn.

The third dog involved in the attack was the grown “puppy” of the abandoned hound, and all three dogs were euthanized by authorities following the incident. Emily’s family was devastated by the loss of their beloved daughter, sister, and mother, emphasizing her selflessness and love for her children.

The community mourns the loss of Emily Panuco, a young mother who will be remembered for her joyfulness, supportiveness, and dedication to her family. Her tragic death serves as a reminder of the importance of responsible pet ownership and the potential dangers that can arise from aggressive animals. May she rest in peace.
