FCC Chairman Slams Jimmy Kimmel After Suspension
FCC chairman Brendan Carr recently made an appearance on Sean Hannity’s Fox News show to commend Nexstar and Sinclair for their decision to remove “Jimmy Kimmel Live” from their ABC affiliate stations. This move led to ABC suspending production of the show indefinitely.
During his interview, Carr expressed his concerns about late night shows like Kimmel’s, stating that they have shifted from being humorous commentators on those in power to enforcing a narrow political ideology. He praised Nexstar and Sinclair for taking a stand against this trend, emphasizing the importance of broadcasters serving the interests of their communities.
Carr also highlighted the efforts of Charlie Kirk in changing the country’s culture, noting the positive impact of his work. The decision to pull “Jimmy Kimmel Live” came after Nexstar, which owns 32 ABC affiliate stations, announced that it would no longer air the show due to Kimmel’s comments on the killing of Charlie Kirk. Carr had previously threatened legal action against ABC for Kimmel’s remarks.
Kimmel’s controversial statements regarding the incident involving Charlie Kirk drew criticism from Nexstar, with the company’s broadcasting president Andrew Alford deeming them offensive and insensitive. As a result, Nexstar deemed it not in the public interest to continue airing the show in the communities they serve.
In response to Nexstar’s decision, Carr took to X to express his gratitude, emphasizing the importance of broadcasters upholding community values. He urged other broadcasters to follow Nexstar’s lead in pushing back against programming that falls short of these values.
As the situation continues to unfold, it remains to be seen how other broadcasters will respond to similar issues in the future. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
