FDA warns consumers about 19 cookware products that could leach lead into your food. Here’s the list.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is issuing a warning to consumers regarding 19 types of cookware that may contain lead, posing a risk of the toxic metal leaching into food. It is crucial for consumers to check their homes for these items and dispose of them immediately, as stated in an alert posted on the FDA’s website. The agency emphasizes that these cookware items should not be donated or refurbished.

The suspect cookware, predominantly manufactured outside the U.S. and mainly in India, is made from aluminum, aluminum alloys, and brass. Testing conducted by the FDA and state agencies revealed that these materials can leach lead into food, raising concerns about potential lead exposure.

Lead poisoning can result in various symptoms such as abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, appetite loss, memory issues, and tingling sensations in extremities. Children are particularly vulnerable to lead exposure, which can impair their brain and nervous system development, affecting growth and overall health. Women of childbearing age and breastfeeding mothers are also at risk of lead poisoning.

The FDA has expanded its initial August alert by adding nine additional products to the list of cookware items that should be discarded due to the potential lead exposure risk. The products were sold by retailers in states like California, Illinois, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, and Washington, D.C. The FDA did not specify if these items were distributed more widely but cautioned that additional products could be included in the alert.

Below is a list of the cookware products identified by the FDA for disposal, along with the manufacturer or distributor details where available:
