Ferrari boss Fred Vasseur points out Lewis Hamilton’s mistakes in his early dismissal in Belgian GP SQ

Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur recently analyzed Lewis Hamilton’s performance during the Sprint Qualifying session of the 2025 F1 Belgian Grand Prix. Hamilton, a seasoned driver, made two crucial errors that cost him a favorable starting position for the upcoming race.

During the session, Hamilton experienced a rare rear wheel lockup, causing him to spin into the runoff area entering the final corner. This mistake left him stuck at P18 on the grid for the Sprint race. Vasseur pointed out the two specific mistakes made by Hamilton during the session.

The first mistake occurred when Hamilton encountered a cloud of dust and gravel on the track from another driver going off. Vasseur speculated that this distraction may have led to Hamilton’s error. The second mistake was attributed to Hamilton being overly aggressive on the brakes, causing the rear wheel lockup.

While Vasseur held Hamilton accountable for the errors, F1 analyst Anthony Davidson suggested a different perspective. Davidson hinted at a possible issue with the car, speculating that Hamilton may have inadvertently shifted the brake bias to the rear, leading to the lockup. He emphasized that modern F1 cars are highly digital and offer limited control to drivers in such situations.

Despite the setback, Hamilton’s teammate, Charles Leclerc, had a strong performance during the session and secured a starting position of P4 for the Sprint race. While Hamilton will have to start from P18, there is still optimism within the Ferrari camp for a strong performance in the upcoming race.

As the F1 season unfolds, it will be interesting to see how Hamilton and Ferrari navigate the challenges and opportunities that come their way. Stay tuned for more updates on the 2025 F1 Belgian Grand Prix and the performances of the drivers on the grid.
