Fever’s Sophie Cunningham jabs Caitlin Clark with hilarious GOAT debate comment
Sophie Cunningham, the Indiana Fever forward, recently found herself in a light-hearted social media exchange with her good friend, Caitlin Clark. A user posted two photos of Cunningham, one with a group of goats at a zoo and the other featuring her hugging Clark in an arena, with the caption suggesting that Clark is the GOAT of women’s basketball.
Cunningham, always one to poke fun at her friends, responded by saying, “They smell the same too,” in reference to the goats and Clark. This playful banter is typical of their friendship, as Cunningham has become a staunch defender of Clark, the reigning WNBA Rookie of the Year.
In a profanity-laced rant on her podcast, “Show Me Something,” Cunningham passionately argued that Clark is indeed the face of the WNBA, shutting down anyone who dares to question her impact on the league. She has also stood up for Clark on the court, including during a heated altercation with the Connecticut Sun.
Despite injuries limiting Clark to just 13 games this season, the Fever are still in playoff contention, currently holding the seventh spot in the league with an 18-16 record. The team also secured a victory in the Commissioner’s Cup earlier in the season.
Cunningham, averaging 8.9 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game, has been a key contributor to the Fever’s success. She recently made headlines by suggesting that No. 1 draft pick, Paige Buckers, receives preferential treatment from officials, a topic of concern for the Fever organization who believe Clark does not get the calls she deserves.
The bond between Cunningham, Clark, and their teammate Lexi Hull has only grown stronger this season, with Clark even playfully teasing them about their tans on social media. Despite the challenges they have faced, the trio remains united and focused on making a statement in the WNBA.
