Florida driver yells, ‘Sike!’ at cop and flees — only to crash into 18-wheeler
Man Crashes Sports Car After Taunting Cop During Traffic Stop
A Miami man found himself in hot water after a failed attempt to evade a traffic stop by taunting a police officer and then crashing his sports car into a tractor-trailer.
The incident unfolded when 42-year-old Eduardo Barbaro Gonzalez was spotted by a Miami officer engaging in what appeared to be a drug deal in a shopping-center parking lot late at night. Upon seeing the marked police car, Gonzalez tried to flee in his Dodge Charger.
The officer quickly intervened, blocking Gonzalez’s path and informing him that he was not free to leave. However, instead of complying, Gonzalez laughed and exclaimed, “Hahaha, sike!” as he floored the gas pedal and sped off, leaving a trail of smoke behind.
Just a couple of blocks later, Gonzalez careened through a stop sign and collided with an 18-wheeler, bringing his ill-fated escape attempt to a crashing halt.
Arrest and Charges
Despite trying to flee on foot after the crash, Gonzalez’s leg injury prevented him from getting far, and he was apprehended by law enforcement. Taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital for treatment, Gonzalez initially provided false information but was ultimately identified through his fingerprints.
It was discovered that Gonzalez had eight active warrants and an ongoing case with the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office for fleeing and eluding. He was subsequently charged with multiple counts of fleeing and eluding, as well as resisting arrest.
Additionally, Gonzalez is facing charges related to his probation warrants, which include aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, cocaine possession, and grand theft.
