Florida man Henrry Antunez-Avarad naked Planet Fitness rampage leads Lee County Sheriff to tanning bed
A bizarre incident unfolded at a Planet Fitness gym in Venice, Florida, when a naked man caused chaos and destruction before being found hiding in a tanning bed by police. The man, identified as Henrry Antunez-Avarad, allegedly went on a nude rampage inside the gym late at night on July 19.
According to reports from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, Antunez-Avarad was asked to leave the gym at closing time but instead became erratic and exposed himself. Deputies were called to the scene after receiving reports of a naked man running through the gym, crawling into the ceiling, and attempting to start a fire in the bathroom.
Upon arriving at the gym, deputies discovered smoke in the men’s locker room and ceiling panels torn down. Security footage showed Antunez-Avarad wandering naked through the gym, entering different rooms, and even lying down on a hydro massage bed in the buff.
Deputies initially suspected that the man was hiding in the ceiling due to the extensive damage he had caused. A K-9 unit was brought in to search for him, and the dog led officers to a closed tanning room where Antunez-Avarad was found hiding in one of the tanning beds.
After a tense confrontation, deputies managed to apprehend the suspect, who was described as “a little sun-kissed” from his time in the tanning bed. Antunez-Avarad was arrested and charged with multiple offenses, including Indecent Exposure, Arson, Fraud, Property Damage, and smuggling contraband into prison.
He is currently being held in county jail, with a court hearing scheduled for August 18. This is not the first time Antunez-Avarad has had a run-in with the law, as he was previously arrested in 2023 for prowling, trespassing, and attempted burglary.
The bizarre incident at the Planet Fitness gym left staff and patrons shaken, but thankfully, no one was injured during the naked man’s rampage. The gym has since repaired the damage caused by Antunez-Avarad’s destructive behavior.
