Ford recalls more than 850,000 vehicles over faulty fuel pump

Ford Motor has issued a recall for 850,318 Ford and Lincoln models due to a potential issue with the low-pressure fuel pump that could cause the engine to stall while in use. This recall, filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, warns that affected vehicles may experience a loss of fuel pressure and flow from the fuel tank, leading to a lack of fuel delivery to the engine and ultimately resulting in an engine stall. This presents a significant risk of a crash if the engine stalls while driving.

Drivers should be on the lookout for warning signs of imminent pump failure, such as poor engine performance like misfiring or running rough, a reduction in engine power, or the illumination of a “check engine” light. Ford has noted that fuel pump failure is more likely to occur under low fuel or warm weather conditions in the fuel tank.

The recall impacts a range of Ford and Lincoln models, including the 2021-2022 F-150, Mustang, Bronco, Explorer, F-250 SD, F-350 SD, F-450 SD, F-550 SD, and Expedition for Ford, as well as the 2021-2022 Navigator and 2021-2023 Aviator for Lincoln.

As of now, Ford has not announced a remedy for the issue. Owners of affected vehicles will receive notification letters starting on July 14, with a second round of letters to follow once the remedy is available. To address any concerns or inquiries, owners can contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332, referencing recall number 25S75. Alternatively, they can reach out to the NHTSA safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or visit www.nhtsa.gov, using recall number 25V-455.

This latest recall adds to a series of recalls issued by Ford this year, totaling 89 recalls affecting over 5 million vehicles, according to NHTSA records. The previous fuel pump-related recall in January involved 295,449 diesel-engine trucks with high-pressure fuel pumps.

In conclusion, Ford’s proactive approach to addressing potential safety issues underscores its commitment to ensuring the well-being of its customers. Stay informed and take necessary action if you own one of the affected Ford or Lincoln models mentioned in this recall.
