Foreclosure begins for planned ‘Camp Pickle’ pickleball site in Centennial
A lender may repossess Camp Pickle’s planned site in Centennial
Plans for Camp Pickle in Centennial, a unique pickleball concept combining sport with retail and food service, may be in jeopardy. The site, located at 7040 S. Kenton St. near Centennial Airport, was purchased for $3.3 million in May 2024. However, Camp Pickle failed to pay off the $2.3 million loan provided by the lender, Easterlima Development LLP, which has now initiated foreclosure proceedings.
Despite initial plans for a 70,000-square-foot complex with 14 indoor and outdoor pickleball courts, along with restaurant and bar seating, no progress has been made at the site. Architects, designers, and engineers have filed liens totaling $58,000 on the property. Additionally, Camp Pickle owes $147,000 in unpaid taxes and $31,000 in permitting fees.
Robert Thompson, the founder of Punch Bowl Social and former frontman for Camp Pickle, has distanced himself from the project. He stated that he resigned from any management role over a year ago and is no longer involved in its operations.
Thompson is now focusing on a new concept called Valhalla SC Arena, which combines food and sport with a focus on soccer. This new venture is still in the early stages of development.
Furthermore, Thompson has faced legal issues, including a $790,970 judgment in March related to breaking a lease for his Three Saints Revival restaurant near Union Station. Records indicate that he has yet to pay the judgment.
