Former BBC Executive, TV Producer Alan Yentob Dies at 78

The world of British broadcasting and the arts is mourning the loss of Alan Yentob, a beloved broadcaster, producer, and long-time BBC executive who passed away at the age of 78. Yentob’s career at the BBC spanned over five decades, during which he held various senior positions, including controller of BBC One and BBC Two, director of television, head of music and arts, director of BBC Drama, Entertainment and Children’s, and creative director. His contributions to the BBC include iconic shows like “Absolutely Fabulous,” “Have I Got News for You,” and the timeless adaptation of “Pride and Prejudice.” He also played a key role in launching children’s channels CBBC and CBeebies.

Yentob made a name for himself with the arts series “Arena” and later went on to edit and present the acclaimed arts documentary series “Imagine” from 2003 onwards. In recognition of his services to the arts and media, Yentob was honored with a CBE in 2024.
