Former Broadway child star Imani Smith allegedly killed by boyfriend in NJ ‘had her whole life ahead of her’

A tragic incident unfolded over the weekend as former Broadway child star Imani Smith, aged 26, was brutally stabbed to death by her boyfriend in a New Jersey home. Smith, known for her role as Young Nala in the popular musical “The Lion King” from 2011 to 2012, had her life cut short in a senseless act of violence by Jordan D Jackson Small, according to Middlesex County authorities and her devastated family.

The horrifying event took place in an Edison home on Grove Avenue, where Smith was found with multiple stab wounds. Despite being rushed to a local hospital, she tragically succumbed to her injuries. Jackson Small, aged 35, was promptly arrested and charged with murder, endangering the welfare of a child, and possession of weapons. He is currently held at the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Center awaiting his court appearance.

The news of Smith’s untimely death has left her family shattered, especially so close to the holiday season. Described as a vibrant, loving, and immensely talented individual, Smith had a promising future ahead of her. Her aunt, Kira Helper, expressed the family’s devastation on a GoFundMe page, highlighting Smith’s remarkable talent and the joy she brought into the world through her performances.

Smith’s tragic passing also leaves behind a 3-year-old son, who will now be cared for by her grieving parents. Helper mentioned the immense challenge her parents face as they navigate the loss of their daughter while stepping in to raise her young son and support their other children during this difficult time.

Imani Smith’s legacy as a triple-threat performer and her memorable role in “The Lion King” on Broadway will forever be cherished by those who knew and loved her. The family is left to mourn the loss of a bright star whose light was extinguished far too soon.
