Former Georgia beauty queen Trinity Poague breaks down after being sentenced in murder of ex-boyfriend’s toddler son
Former Georgia beauty queen Trinity Madison Poague was visibly emotional in court as she faced sentencing for the tragic murder of her ex-boyfriend’s toddler son. Poague, 20, was convicted of felony murder, aggravated battery, and child cruelty in Sumter County Superior Court in Georgia for the January 2024 killing of 18-month-old Romeo “Jaxton Dru” Angeles, as reported by WALB.
While Poague was found guilty of several charges, she was acquitted of malice murder. As the judge announced a life sentence with an additional 20 concurrent years, Poague couldn’t contain her tears, showcasing the weight of the consequences of her actions.
The heartbreaking incident took place in the dorm room of Poague’s boyfriend, Julian Williams, while he was out picking up a pizza. Poague texted Williams that his son was not breathing, prompting a frantic rush back to find the toddler unresponsive. Despite immediate efforts to save Romeo, he tragically passed away at the hospital.
During the trial, prosecutors argued that Poague harbored resentment towards the toddler as she desired to have children with Williams herself. They highlighted disturbing internet searches Poague made while at the hospital, raising suspicions about her intentions.
The medical examiner’s report revealed the extent of Romeo’s injuries, indicating blunt-force trauma to his head and torso that rendered his brain “useless.” Poague initially claimed the toddler was eating chips before falling ill, but medical evidence contradicted her account, pointing to deliberate harm.
Prior to the incident, Poague had a promising future as a beauty queen, earning the 2023 Miss Donalsonville title and participating in the National Peanut Festival pageant. However, her involvement in the toddler’s murder led to the revocation of her titles and a tarnished reputation.
The sentencing marked a somber end to a tragic chapter in Poague’s life, serving as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of her actions. The court’s decision to impose a life sentence reflects the severity of the crime and the need for justice for young Romeo “Jaxton Dru” Angeles.
