A spokesperson, Lisa LeMaster, confirmed that Hicks passed away peacefully in Dallas, surrounded by his family. Hicks made a significant impact in the world of sports as the owner and chairman of the NHL’s Dallas Stars from 1995 to 2011, a tenure that included a Stanley Cup victory in 1999.

His ownership extended to baseball as well, with Hicks at the helm of the Texas Rangers from 1998 to 2010. Under his leadership, the Rangers clinched three American West Division titles and made a memorable World Series appearance. In addition to his success in American sports, Hicks also made a mark in international soccer by acquiring a 50% stake in Liverpool in 2007.

Beyond his sports ventures, Hicks co-founded Hicks & Haas in 1984, playing a pivotal role in reshaping private equity and investment strategies. He also dedicated his time to serving on the University of Texas’s Board of Regents from 1994 to 1999, further showcasing his commitment to education and community involvement.
