France TV Distribution Launches Historical Drama ‘Unchained’

France TV Distribution, the sales arm of French public broadcaster France Télévisions, has recently announced its involvement in the period slave drama “Unchained,” set to be launched internationally at this year’s Unifrance Rendez-Vous in Le Havre.

“Unchained” takes place in 1806 on Réunion Island in the Indian Ocean, following the aftermath of a devastating cyclone that leaves Charles Bellevue’s plantation in ruins. Bankrupt and forced to sell his lands and slaves, the story focuses on Isaac, a slave who discovers that Charles Bellevue is not just his master but also his father. Fuelled by a desire for freedom, Isaac convinces Charles to keep the plantation and is appointed as overseer, leading to a delicate balance between power and protection for his people.

Created by Alain Moreau, “Unchained” is a six-part series written by Adriana Barbato and Fanny Talmone, and produced by Tetra Media Fiction, a part of ITV’s French production subsidiary Tetra Media Studio. The series is directed by Laure de Butler.

In addition to “Unchained,” France TV Distribution is also showcasing other compelling titles at the event, including the family thriller “Vendetta.” This series follows the story of a Corsican family spanning from the 1990s to the present day, focusing on Anto, a Parisian cop of Corsican descent who aims to break the cycle of vengeance that has haunted his family for generations.

Another standout title is the six-part thriller “Danger in the Valley,” which revolves around the peaceful village of Salvérac facing a looming threat from a shale gas drilling project. Led by a billionaire engineer and a powerful consortium, the mayor of Salvérac becomes a target of shadowy threats as she fights to protect her community.

“Danger in the Valley” is co-written by bestselling French author Michel Bussi and produced by Paris-based Cinétévé in collaboration with France TV and Belgium’s Be-Films.

These captivating series offer a diverse range of storytelling and themes, showcasing the talent and creativity of French television production. France TV Distribution’s participation in the Unifrance Rendez-Vous highlights their commitment to bringing high-quality content to international audiences.
