French Actor from ‘The Missing’ Was 72

Tchéky Karyo, the beloved French actor known for his roles in “The Missing” and “Baptiste,” as well as films like “La Femme Nikita” and “GoldenEye,” passed away on October 31st after battling cancer. He was 72 years old.

Born in Istanbul in 1953, Karyo’s family relocated to Paris when he was a child. He honed his craft at the Cyrano Theatre, eventually joining the National Theatre of Strasbourg and making a name for himself in French cinema with standout performances in “The Bear” and “La Femme Nikita.”

In the 1990s, Karyo ventured into Hollywood, landing roles in blockbuster films such as “Bad Boys,” “Kiss of the Dragon,” and “GoldenEye.” He showcased his versatility by portraying a wide range of characters, from villains to French officers, leaving a lasting impact on audiences worldwide.

Throughout the 2000s, Karyo continued to captivate audiences with his work in both American and French projects. His portrayal of detective Julien Baptiste in “The Missing” garnered critical acclaim, leading to a spinoff series titled “Baptiste,” which further solidified his status as a talented and versatile actor.

In addition to his acting career, Karyo was also a talented songwriter and musician, releasing two albums during his lifetime. He was married twice, first to actress Isabelle Pasco and later to actress Valérie Keruzoré, with whom he shared two children, Louise and Liv.
