Fugitive teen gunman charged with deadly shooting of apparent innocent bystander, 57, using a walker: cops

A fugitive teen gunman, Brandon Sullivan, was apprehended by the NYPD’s Violent Crime Task Force on Wednesday and charged with the murder of 57-year-old Kevin Jennings in the Bronx. The shooting, which also injured a 34-year-old woman, occurred on May 18 in Fordham Heights.

Sullivan, 18, faces multiple charges including two counts of murder, attempted murder, manslaughter, assault, and criminal possession of a weapon. The incident took place at East 188th Street and Marion Avenue, just a few blocks away from Fordham University. Jennings was fatally shot in the head, while the woman, who was an innocent bystander, was hit in the leg.

Both victims were taken to St. Barnabas Hospital, where Jennings succumbed to his injuries. The woman is currently in stable condition. According to Jennings’ family, he was not the intended target of the shooting. He was simply outside a bodega, enjoying a meal in his chair, when the altercation between others escalated into violence.

The motive behind the shooting remains unclear as of now. Sullivan’s previous case, which led to him being on probation, has not been disclosed. His arraignment for the charges related to the deadly shooting is expected to take place soon.

The tragic incident has left the community in shock, with Jennings’ family expressing their disbelief at the senseless violence that took his life. They described him as an innocent bystander who was at the wrong place at the wrong time. The ongoing investigation aims to uncover the circumstances that led to the shooting and bring justice to the victims and their families.
