Gen Z’s top 10 cities to live in, according to a Time Out global survey

In August, Time Out unveiled its yearly ranking of the world’s best cities, showcasing the top cities for food, culture, and nightlife. This year, Time Out introduced a new category, listing the 10 best cities for Gen Z to reside in, as per their preferences.

Based on a survey of over 18,500 individuals worldwide spanning all age groups, only responses from those born between 1997 and 2012 were considered to determine the best cities for Gen Z. Factors such as food, nightlife, culture, affordability, happiness, livability, and overall city vibe were taken into account.

“The enthusiastic ratings these cities received from our readers globally are truly thrilling,” says Rossilynne Culgan, Things to Do Editor at Time Out New York, to CNBC Make It. “Identifying these beloved cities that readers are passionate about provides a valuable guide for adding new destinations to your own travel bucket list.”

Among the top 10 cities, the United States was represented by New York City alone.

According to the survey, New York City secured the 4th spot, earning praise for its walkability, nightlife, food scene, cultural offerings, art, live music, performances, and shows. However, only 46% of Gen Z respondents considered it an affordable place to live.

“I believe New York should continue along its current trajectory. According to Gen Z, it’s an incredibly stimulating place to live, and I wholeheartedly agree. The city’s vibrancy, cultural richness, and round-the-clock entertainment options are truly exceptional and make living in New York a unique experience,” Culgan remarks.
