Georgia lineman Nyier Daniels arrested on felony and misdemeanor charges following police chase

Georgia offensive lineman Nyier Daniels found himself in trouble with the law after a high-speed police chase in Commerce, Georgia. Daniels, a redshirt freshman from Newark, New Jersey, was arrested on multiple charges, including three felony charges and 10 misdemeanor charges.

According to the Jackson County jail log, Daniels was booked at 10 a.m. Sunday on charges of fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, as well as two counts of cruelty to children because his two younger siblings were in the car with him. The misdemeanor charges included reckless driving and speeding. The police report revealed that Daniels reached speeds of 100 mph in a 25 mph zone in Commerce and 150 mph on I-85 during the chase.

Daniels’ mother, Brandi Canada Green, 41, was also arrested after driving another vehicle that became involved in the chase. Green faces a felony charge of fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, as well as a misdemeanor charge of willful obstruction of law enforcement officers.

The chase came to an end when officers lost contact with Daniels’ vehicle on the interstate. The arrest was made after officers discovered Daniels was a Georgia player and contacted Georgia coaches for assistance. The arresting officer, Cpt. Cole Edwards, reported that Daniels fled because he did not want his mother to get a ticket.

Daniels remains in the Jackson County jail, with a total bond set at $21,000. Green’s bond was set at $11,000.

Despite his recent legal troubles, Daniels has appeared in three games this season for No. 4 Georgia, including their recent 35-3 win over Charlotte. He was not listed on the depth chart for that game.

Georgia coach Kirby Smart is expected to address Daniels’ arrest during his weekly news conference to preview Friday’s final regular-season game against No. 23 Georgia Tech. Georgia released a statement in response to inquiries about the incident, stating that they are aware of the charges and are gathering additional information.

This is a developing story, and more details may emerge as the situation unfolds. Stay tuned for updates on this incident involving Nyier Daniels and his mother, Brandi Canada Green.
