Globo Celebrates 100 With Anonymous Content, BBC, Fox, Leshem Deals
Globo, the Brazilian communications giant, showcased its evolution from a newspaper in 1925 to a radio and TV network at a recent event in Cannes. The company’s Head of International Business and Co-productions, Angela Colla, highlighted the numerous international partnerships and deals that Globo has secured, signaling a new chapter in its future.
Brazil, being a country the size of a continent, has been striving to connect with the rest of the world. Globo’s challenge lies in expanding its portfolio beyond telenovelas to encompass various forms of entertainment and business models that resonate globally.
One of the strategies to achieve this goal is through format deals. Globo announced a partnership with Anonymous Content for a U.S. version of “The Others,” a series that explores themes of intolerance. The format has already been sold to Germany and Greece, showcasing its international appeal.
Additionally, Globo has collaborated with Turkey’s Ay Yapim for the global distribution of “Leyla,” a Turkish adaptation of the popular Brazilian telenovela “Brazil Avenue.” The company has also sold the format for “All the Flowers” and “Pages of Life” to Greece and Portugal, respectively.
In terms of international co-productions, Globo has teamed up with renowned creatives and companies to create new content. Projects like “Paranoia” with Ron Leshem and “Perfect Days” have generated buzz in the industry. Globo has also partnered with Fox Entertainment Studios for an English-language Christmas movie set in Brazil and BBC Studios for a documentary series on the Amazon rainforest.
Furthermore, Globo has seen success with its recent releases, including “Perfect Days” and “Anything Goes,” which have garnered high viewership and critical acclaim. The company’s commitment to storytelling and diversity in content and business models sets it apart in the global entertainment landscape.
As Globo continues to expand its reach and influence, more exciting projects and collaborations are on the horizon. Stay tuned for more updates from this innovative Brazilian powerhouse.
