GM joins Ford in halting exports to China as potential tariffs loom

General Motors Ends Vehicle Shipments from US to China

General Motors recently announced that it will no longer be shipping vehicles to China from the United States, affecting its China export business. This decision comes amidst ongoing discussions between the US and China regarding tariffs and trade issues.

The vehicles were imported to China through GM’s Durant Guild premium import business, accounting for less than 0.1% of the company’s sales volume in the country. Economic conditions prompted GM to restructure The Durant Guild and optimize its operations in China.

Previously, goods imported from the US faced tariffs of over 100%, which were later reduced for a period of 90 days as part of an agreement between the two countries. In a similar move, GM’s competitor Ford Motor also ceased exports to China in April.
