GM recalls thousands of vehicles over transmission issue that could increase risk of crash

General Motors Recalls Over 43,000 SUVs Due to Transmission Issue

General Motors is recalling more than 43,000 Chevrolet, GMC, and Cadillac SUVs due to a transmission issue that could potentially increase the risk of a crash.

The recall affects various models from the 2022 lineup, including Chevrolet Tahoes, Suburbans, GMC Yukons, Yukon XLs, and Cadillac Escalades.

All models under the recall are equipped with a 10-speed transmission with an electronic transmission range select system, according to GM.

The issue stems from a transmission control valve that may experience excess wear over time, leading to a loss of pressure and potentially causing harsh shifting or rear wheel lockup in rare cases.

Dealers will address the issue by installing new transmission control module software that will monitor valve performance and limit the transmission to fifth gear if excessive wear is detected, preventing potential wheel lockup.

Owners will receive notifications of the available remedy by mail starting March 30.

GM spokesperson emphasized, “The safety of our customers is the highest priority for the entire GM team, and we’re working to remedy this matter as quickly as possible,” in a statement to FOX Business.
